Catalonia vs Nigeria in football match

Catalonia and Nigeria National Football Selections will play at Estadi Olímpic Cornellà-El Prat, on January 2nd.

The so-called “green eagles” are in full preparation mode for the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins at the end of January, a competition that it has already won twice before.

The Catalan squad called up to face Nigeria has no fewer than 10 Barcelona players in its ranks. Víctor Valdés, undisputed No. 1 for Catalonia, is likely to start, whilst the defence could feature Carles Puyol, Gerard Piqué, and Jordi Alba. World Cup winning left-back Joan Capdevila is also in the squad, whilst Xavi and Sergio Busquets will provide effortless control in the colours of the Catalan XI. A multitude of options up top include former La Masia prodigy Bojan Krkic, Jonathan Soriano, and Barca youngster Cristian Tello.

This will also be the last game for the 1970’s Dutch star Johan Cruyff (ex-player and manager for FC Barcelona) as coach.

It will be the second meeting between the West Africans and Catalonia. The first match, in December 1998, ended in an emphatic 5-0 defeat for Nigeria. Catalans may be looking to achieve a similar result.
