Letter from Catalonia
This is the first of what I hope will become a regular contribution to the already considerable scope of subjects broached on Culture Spain.
I would like to give a little background, so that you know ‘where I am coming from’ and can judge my contributions with this information in mind.
Certainly, I have a profound interest in economics, current and cultural matters, politics and social affairs and I have been living in the north-eastern corner of the Iberian Peninsula for many years – indeed, I was here during the last 10 years of Franco’s dictatorship. I have also traveled extensively (and intensively) all over the world, as well as throughout Spain and Catalonia (with anywhere in Spain still one of my favourite holiday destinations).
I have very definitely ‘gone native’ in Catalonia and so my views and opinions will often bring to you a distinctive Catalan focus on Spanish news and events. This, I hope you will find valuable, given the power and importance of Catalonia within Spain and the huge stakes involved in Catalan independence (or its rejection).
