Catalonia ‘tired’ of Spain: region president

The leader of Catalonia hardened his tone Thursday in the push for greater freedom for the big Spanish region, warning that it is “tired” of the rest of Spain in the economic crisis.

Speaking in Madrid two days after a massive march for Catalan independence in Barcelona, regional president Artur Mas suggested Catalonia should have a referendum on nation status.

“I think that between Spain and Catalonia a certain parallel is emerging with what is happening between northern Europe and southern Europe,” Mas told an economic forum.
